 Kawasaki disease is a febrile illness of childhood. It is a self-limited acute vasculitic syndrome of unknown etiology.15-25% of untreated children developed cardiovascular sequelae ranging from asymptomatic coronary artery ectasis or aneurysm formation to giant coronary artery aneurysms with thrombosis, MI, and sudden death.Kawasaki disease is more common in the Japanese-American population. Worldwide, it is most common in all Asian populations.Kawasaki disease is more common in males than in females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.5:1.Eighty-five percent of children with Kawasaki disease are younger than 5 years.
